By: Marvin Bouknight Well, guess who’s back in town? You guessed it, a roseate spoonbill! We have been fortunate to have seen a roseate spoonbill over the last few years and for the last couple of years, one has spent almost the entire summer with us. Today, out and around Oldfield, sure enough, I saw a roseate spoonbill on the duck pond off of hole #11. This one has shown up earlier than they have in the past, but hopefully it’s not just passing through, maybe it will spend the summer here at Oldfield! If you’re out and about, keep your eyes peeled for a large, lightly pink bird with a spoon-shaped bill (duh!), usually hanging out with wood storks and other wading birds. This one was on the fallen tree with a few egrets on the far bank of the Duck Pond. Go have a look or better yet, join me for this Saturday’s bird walk and we’ll wander over that way to see of we can catch a glimpse of this beautiful and very different-looking wading bird!
