We are well underway into the transition from winter to spring time fishing patterns.  This means to be successful on the water this time of year anglers really have to keep up with the ever changing conditions and movement and behavior of our local saltwater species.  In our inshore waters the large schools of redfish that were commonly found on the flats around periods of low tide have begun to break up into smaller and more mobile groups. Capt. Charlie has been on the water almost everyday the weather has allowed and has the location of good concentrations of fish dialed in.  Charlie guided Oldfield Club member Donna Pernice and a guest to a great catch of  redfish on Friday.  On Sunday Charlie guided Don Hartrick and his grandson Ryan on an inshore trip.  Despite the trip being cut short due to rain they still managed to catch a handful of nice reds. I’ve been guiding club members on a number of nearshore wreck fishing trips over the last week and the action has been good.  Our primary target species are the hard fighting and great tasting sheepshead; however, we’ve also been catching a fair number of black drum and redfish.  The highlight of the week was a trip with club member Jeff Bauer and his guests visiting from Pennsylvania.  This crew really did a number on the sheepshead and brought back enough for a fish fry that fed half the neighborhood.  Gotta love life in the Lowcountry!!
