Whether you are a visitor to this beautiful area, or lucky enough to call it home, spending a day on the water is a must in July! Not only is it a great way to beat the heat, but also to see some amazing sights, catch some fish, and entertain family and friends. Some of the best fishing this month has to offers occurs on the most beautiful and pristine salt marsh environments that you’ll ever lay eyes on. I’m talking about “tailing redfishing” and if you’re an outdoorsman and you’ve yet to experience this type of fishing you’ve got to put it on your to-do-list! If you’re interested in catching big game fish in inshore waters July is the time to do it. Several species of drag burning sharks including black tips, lemons, and tigers prowl the rips of Port Royal Sound this time of year and make for great action. The early arrivers of the tarpon migration also typically begin to show in our inshore waters during early July and grown in numbers throughout the month. The tarpon that visit this area during the summer months average 80 to 120 lbs and put on jaw- dropping aerial displays when hooked. Just off the beaches of Hilton Head and Bay Point schools of Spanish mackerel, blue fish, and ladyfish aggressively feed on glass minnows providing some great fly and light tackle action. Further out at our offshore wrecks and reefs king mackerel, cobia, barracuda, amberjack, seabass, snapper, and grouper keep the rods bent and provide plenty of fun and great fillets for the cooler.
