Well to say that 2020 has been a whirlwind of chaos would be an understatement. Fires burning in the west, violence in our cities and the world in the grips of a pandemic. Then I am reminded of the true blessings that we share. Just several weeks ago, I was introduced to this wonderful club for the first time. Like all of you, I was awestruck by the sheer beauty of this place, clearly some of nature’s finest work. I found the video on our 1732 website and watched it over and over again. With great pride, I forwarded it to my friends around the country. Then recently, I had the opportunity to experience the shady oaks and the smell of sweet grass in the early morning and like everyone reading this note, I too was hooked. It was like falling in love for the first time all over again. I am blessed beyond words to be able to live my dream in this wonderful and peaceful place. It seems that sometimes dreams really do come true! Over the last several days, I’ve tried to divide my time to meeting members, spending time with staff and an overall observance of the club’s culture. Recently, I have taken up residence in Bluffton and started to insert myself into the community. After just this short time, when asked about “What brings you to Bluffton?”, my heart swells with pride as I say, “Oldfield!” I love watching the reactions. I have such an advantage of seeing this wonderful club with the freshest set of eyes. I have watched the sunrise on the river and the mist on the lakes. An alligator cruised by on the lagoon and the spectacular homes along the ride. Sure, my responsibility is to ensure that every member, resident and guest has an exceptional experience at our club, every single time. It is also my responsibility to our team that I provide the leadership and ensure that our club continues to get better and better every day. But regardless of what we accomplish as a team at Oldfield, we cannot even begin to compete with the smell of the sweet grass and the sunrises over the Okatie River. I am so grateful to be a part of this club and I am looking forward to meeting all of you. This is indeed the right place at the right time….Oldfield.
