We all need balance in our life; a balanced diet, a balanced budget…But what about your personal balance? Remember when you were a kid and you could stand on one leg forever? As we get older our balance deteriorates which can lead to accidental falls and injuries. Practicing our balance is important, just as important as any fitness routine. Incorporate some balancing exercises in your everyday routine so that is becomes a habit. Try these simple yet very effective and important moves.
  • Stand on one foot as you brush your teeth each morning
  • Using a chair, sit down and stand up without using your hands
  • Shift your weight from side to side (hold the shift for 15 seconds)
  • Put one foot in front of the other and hold for 20 seconds.
Do these exercises in progression. Hold on with to hands to a stable point, progress to one hand and work your way up to not holding on to anything. And when your ready to step up to another level, try performing these exercises on a cushion or pillow.
